The Grossglockner High Alpine Road, which runs from Fusch in Salzburg to Heiligenblut am Grossglockner on the Carinthian side, is one of Austria's most famous landmarks and is considered one of the most beautiful scenic and panoramic roads in the world. It is, after all, one of the three most visited tourist destinations in Austria! The mostly high-alpine road blends almost seamlessly into the mountain landscape over a length of 48 kilometers, winding its way through the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park. It leads all the way up to the Kaiser-Franz-Josefs-Höhe viewpoint at Austria's highest mountain, the Grossglockner, with the Pasterze Glacier, the largest remaining glacier in the Eastern Alps. Majestic mountain peaks, glaciers, green valleys, and forests – a sight that will leave you in awe!
The Grossglockner High Alpine Road is a true masterpiece of high-alpine road construction! Every single meter was planned with the utmost care. Every viewpoint was chosen with the greatest consideration. Along the road, twelve themed areas await you, offering a variety of indoor and outdoor experiences to enhance your excursion. These include numerous exhibitions where you can learn more about the fascinating history of the High Alpine Road or discover interesting facts about the region's flora, fauna, and geology.
